Open sourcing the UI would allow for external contributions to address issues and implement UX improvements. Open sourcing also fosters better code and project discipline due to transparency.
Risks:
- Open sourcing adds overhead and outside contributions tend to be limited. There is risk that there isn't enough ROI. A bounty program could address this balance.
- Open source could potentially reveal some of Botto's IP. This risk needs to be assessed by the current team and the UI architecture should be such that it minimizes the risk.
- Open source could accelerate a copy cat project. First, Botto's value is not in the UI but in the AI engine/model - at least it should be. Second, reuse of Botto's UI for other successful projects increases Botto's value by association and dependency. The correct licensing can address this.
